Vemmelund & McGrath join Dundalk as McMillan signs new deal

Dundalk have added two more players to their squad ahead of the 2017 season, with Niclas Vemmelund and Jamie McGrath joining the League of Ireland champions.

Danish defender Vemmelund arrives at Oriel Park having spent the 2016 season at Derry City, while Republic of Ireland youth international McGrath ends his association with St Patrick's Athletic in order to sign for Stephen Kenny's side.

The pair follow Sean Hoare in committing to the Lilywhites for the upcoming season and Kenny believes that all three signings will improve the squad as they look to build upon their exploits in 2016, which saw them compete in the Europa League and win their third league title in a row..

"They are good additions to us I feel. They are all young players. Jamie is only 20, Sean is 22, Niclas is 24 – they have their best years ahead of them," the Dundalk manager told the club's official website.

"They will all be very good additions. I want to improve the technical standards all the time and they are very technically gifted players and natural footballers."

As well as capturing the signatures of Vemmelund and McGrath, Dundalk have confirmed that David McMillan has put pen to paper on a new deal with the club.

The 28-year-old was the club's top goalscorer in 2016, hitting 16 goals in the league, as well as five in six Champions League qualifying games.

"I am very pleased to have re-signed for the club," said McMillan.

"It has been over a month now since we finished up in Israel and it has been a tough off season but I am delighted to put pen-to-paper on the new deal."
