'Real Madrid don't need Neymar' - Savio talks up Asensio and Bale

Real Madrid do not need to sign Neymar, according to former star Savio, with the likes of Marco Asensio and Gareth Bale more than useful alternatives.

The Blancos continue to be heavily linked with a big-money raid on Paris Saint-Germain to bring the former Barcelona forward back to La Liga.

It is less than a year since the Brazilian departed Camp Nou in a record-breaking €222 million transfer, but similar figures are being floated ahead of the next window.

Savio, though, believes that Real already have enough attacking quality on their books, regardless of what Neymar may add.

A man who won three Champions League crowns with Madrid between 1998 and 2003, told Marca: "I always think the greats will join Real Madrid, it's fantastic. Individually and in the imagination it is the best, but I don't think they need him right now."

Quizzed as to which players at Santiago Bernabeu he enjoys watching, Savio added: "It is difficult to compare because they are different, but Marco Asensio and Lucas Vazquez can decide a match in one move.

“I also love Gareth Bale. He is different than the rest, you can always expect something from him, in a dribble, a shot, a header."

Real also boast five-time Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo on their books, with the Portuguese back to his brilliant best in 2018.

The 33-year-old has taken his goal return to a European-high 37 for the current campaign, but Savio is reluctant to be drawn into the debate regarding his standing alongside eternal rival Lionel Messi.

“I can never answer this question,” said the former Brazil international.

“I always go with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo because I played football for many years and what we are seeing in these past eight or nine years with them two is something surreal, between the numbers and titles. They are apart from everyone.”
