Mohun Bagan have officially signed Australian midfielder Cameron Watson in place of his compatriot Diogo Ferreira, who was released by the club two days ago.
The 30-year-old Australian played his youth football at Portuguese club, FC Porto. He has plied his trade with A-League side Adelaide United for five seasons from 2010 to 2015. Last season he had played for Bengaluru FC in the I-League. He played 16 matches in the I-League and was also an integral member of their Federation Cup-winning campaign. Incidentally, they had defeated Mohun Bagan in the final of the tournament.
The Green and Maroons roped in their sixth foreigner of the season after Watson's compatriot Diogo Ferreira left the club without playing a single game. The Portuguese born Australian midfielder cited family issues to place a transfer request to the Kolkata giants and the club obliged.
Watson's inclusion is bound to strengthen Sanjoy Sen's side who are currently plagued with an injury crisis. Japanese midfielder Yuta Kinowaki, who had a dream outing in the Kolkata derby, dislocated his shoulder against Churchill Brothers.
Sony Norde and Ansumana Kromah too got injured against Churchill and were out of Bagan's previous I-League match against Shillong Lajong at home, which they drew.
The former Bengaluru FC man, who is predominantly a defensive midfielder, will add great value to the side.
