Kolkata giants East Bengal have signed Khalid Aucho as a replacement for 25-year-old Armand Bazie. Aucho is being considered as a like-for-like replacement for Bazie as the 24-yeard old is also a defensive midfielder. Bazie has joined Minerva Punjab and also featured in the 1-0 loss against East Bengal.
The Red and Golds had previously signed Uzbek midfielder Dilshod Sharofetdinov as Bazie's replacement, but the 32-year old midfielder could not make it to India due to visa problems.
Aucho's international transfer certificate has already been received by the club and the Ugandan has applied for a visa as well.
Aucho made his international debut against Rwanda in a 1–0 victory at the 2013 CECAFA Cup. He has 36 caps for his country and has scored two goals.
He has formerly with Red Star Belgrade, a team that plays in the Serbian Superliga. Post signing for Red Star, he was immediately loaned out to OFK Beograd until the end of the season. He has also plied his trade at South African and Kenyan top-tier teams.
East Bengal have four games left in the I-League but the sixth foreigner is being signed keeping in mind the upcoming Super Cup where the top teams from both I-League and ISL will compete.
East Bengal are currently third placed on the league table with 26 points from 14 matches.
