Henry Onyekuru wins Promising Player of the Year award in Belgium

Henry Onyekuru has been named the most Promising Player of the Year in Belgium.

The former AS Eupen forward was honoured at the Soulier d’Or Awards in Brussels, Belgium - an annual award given the best player in the Belgian top-flight.

The 20-year-old saw off competition from Mechelen’s Hassan Bandé and Landry Dimata after accruing 219 of 509 votes.

The Super Eagles forward enjoyed an impressive goalscoring run in 2017, notching 12 efforts in 28 league appearances for Eupen before joining Everton in June 2017.

Onyekuru returned to the Belgian top-flight on a season-long loan deal with Anderlecht where he has scored nine goals in 19 league games already this season.

Following a knee injury suffered in a league game against AS Eupen in December 2017, the Aspire academy product returned to his parent club Everton for treatment.
