"I think [Modric] deserved it and even more because he was the most outstanding player of the tournament," Sule told Goal.

"Modric was a true leader of the Croatian side and every member of the team gives him that respect. They trusted him and he has the ball almost every time and was more like the one that decides everything that happens in the team.

"He is able to evade tight markings and never suffocated or marked out of a match. He knows when to withdraw and also release the ball. I really loved the Croatian team because of the fighting spirit and the tactical discipline they had overall.

"I think that's what guided them, even when they had no outstanding players but their trust in Modric and his confidence in his mates inspired them. The fact that they lost the final does not invalidate the achievement of the Croatian."
