The Honourable Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, extended his welcome to all the teams journeying to India to take part in the upcoming FIFA U-17 World Cup which is scheduled to kick off on October 6.
Speaking about India hosting its first ever FIFA event during his 'Mann Ki Baat' program, he said “I want our young generation to connect with sports. It is a matter of great joy for our youngsters that we are hosting the FIFA U-17 World Cup from 6-28 October.
“24 teams from the world over will be making India their home for that period. Let’s welcome all the teams and enjoy the spectacle.”
While on the topic, he also mentioned the soon-to-be launched sports portal developed by the sports ministry.
“Sports Ministry has developed a sports portal for budding sportspersons of the country. It will be launched tomorrow.”
Narendra Modi advised the youth of India to develop a preference for outdoor activities over video games. He stressed that instead of playing video games inside the house, the country's youth should go out and take the field.
“During this age of computer, the playing field is more important than PlayStations. Play FIFA video games but also go outside and play actual football on the fields.”
With less than 50 days to go, the country is gearing up for its first ever participation in a World Cup.
