De Ligt staying at Ajax despite Barcelona interest, says agent

Matthijs de Ligt has no intention of leaving Ajax this season despite interest from Barcelona, his agent says.

The 18-year-old centre-back is a target for the Catalan side after breaking through at the Amsterdam outfit last term as they reached the Europa League final.

Barca were courting his former Ajax partner Davinson Sanchez last season, only to see him depart for Tottenham Hotspur.

The Catalan side have since made Netherlands international De Ligt their top target to bolster their back line and are ready to make a move for him in January.

However, De Ligt's representative, Barry Hulshoff, maintains he has no interest in leaving in the winter.

"The intention is to stay at Ajax at least until summer," he told Ziggo Sport.

"He signed a new contract in Amsterdam in August 2017. He is fixed until the summer of 2021."

And former Ajax and PSV coach Aad de Mos believes staying in the Dutch capital would be for the best, saying:  "I think if he stays with Ajax for another two years, he will be even more desired by the top European teams."
