Chicharito hints at summer transfer push after missing out on January move

Javier Hernandez has refused to rule out making another push for a transfer away from West Ham.

The Mexico international striker has endured a frustrating return to English football following a £16 million move to the London Stadium in 2017.

The former Manchester United star joined the Hammers on the back of a productive stint in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen which delivered 39 goals in 76 appearances.

He has netted just seven times this term, however, and was eager to find a way out of east London during the January transfer window.

No switch materialised then, but Chicharito has hinted that he will be reassessing his situation over the summer, telling Univision: “There has always been speculation as to whether I will stay or leave and I cannot guarantee anything.

“I have two more years of contract with West Ham, and everything will come up.”

West Ham blocked the 29-year-old’s path over the winter, with David Moyes refusing to part with a proven performer in the midst of a Premier League relegation battle.

Hernandez concedes that he may face similar frustration in the next window after committing to a deal through to 2020.

He added: “You never know, because in the winter period I wanted to find my way out to have more minutes and could not.”

For now, the experienced frontman is focused on trying to get as many minutes as possible with West Ham.

He has World Cup aspirations to think of this summer, with it his opinion that Mexico are capable of springing a few surprises in Russia.

Quizzed on El Tri’s chances of tasting global glory, Hernandez said: “A lot of people complain that it’s not realistic but people who don’t dream or aspire to more and more are maybe the ones that are confused.”
