Barcelona Team News: Injuries, suspensions and line-up vs Getafe

Everything you need to know about the league leaders' Primera Division clash at home to the Madrid side this weekend...

Barcelona narrowly escaped defeat in the Catalan derby away to Espanyol last weekend and will look to extend their unbeaten record in La Liga as they face Getafe at Camp Nou on Sunday.

Gerard Pique's late leveller salvaged a point for the league leaders at Cornella and means Barca have won 18 and drawn four in the Primera Division so far this term.

Ernesto Valverde's side also booked their place in the final of the Copa del Rey on Thursday night with a 2-0 win at Valencia which saw the Blaugrana advance 3-0 on aggregate.

Barca are now in action against Getafe at home in La Liga, having beaten the Madrid-based side 2-1 at the Coliseum in a hard-fought match earlier on this season.

BARCELONA INJURIES

Summer signing Ousmane Dembele was injured in the away game at Getafe and will miss this one altogether after picking up another injury at Real Sociedad last month.

Gerard Pique went off feeling pain against Valencia and did not train on Friday, so he is a big doubt for Sunday's game. Fellow centre-back Thomas Vermaelen is also likely to miss out, while midfielder Andre Gomes is doubtful.

BARCELONA SUSPENSIONS

Samuel Umtiti is suspended for Sunday's match, meaning coach Ernesto Valverde will be left with a selection headache in central defence.

BARCELONA POTENTIAL STARTING LINE-UP

Barca boss Valverde may have to consider a change of formation if Pique and Vermaelen are both out for Sunday's game against Getafe.

Without Pique, Vermaelen, the suspended Umtiti and the recently departed Javier Mascherano, Valverde would be left with only one central defender - January signing Yerry Mina.

The Colombian defender made his debut as a substitute in the Copa del Rey against Valencia on Thursday and is likely to be a starter on Sunday, maybe even in a 3-4-1-2 or 3-5-2 formation if Pique and Vermaelen are both out.

Another alternative is for Sergio Busquets to drop back into a defensive role.

Meanwhile, Philippe Coutinho is set to start in order to give Andres Iniesta a rest ahead of Barca's Champions League game against Chelsea later this month.

Barcelona possible Getafe

GETAFE TEAM NEWS

Getafe returned to La Liga last summer and have been difficult to beat in the Primera Division this term, losing narrowly to both Barcelona and Real Madrid at home before ending Valencia's unbeaten record back in December.

Jose Bordalas' side have drawn their last three matches - against Athletic Club, Sevilla and Leganes - and are currently in 11th place with a respectable 29 points from their 22 games.

Midfielder Markel Bergara remains sidelined, but Bordalas has an otherwise full-strength squad to choose from for the Camp Nou clash.
