Aubameyang targets Premier League success with Arsenal

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is targeting English Premier League triumph with Arsenal this season.

Although the Gunners started their 2018-19 league campaign with a 2-0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday, the Gabon international hopes to reignite the form he enjoyed in the German Bundesliga to help the north London outfit chase their first league title since 2004.

In January, Aubameyang ended a four-and-a-half-year stay with Borussia Dortmund as the highest goalscoring African in the German top-flight history with 98 goals in 144 matches with several domestic laurels.

"Collectively, we want to play every competition to the maximum. We can't hide. It would be great to end the season with one or more trophies,” Aubameyang told ESPN .

“The league is obviously the priority because it has been a while since Arsenal won it.

"It will be complicated, though, and we know that. Personally, I want to contribute as much as possible with goals and assists.

“I don't have a figure in mind but I really [think] it will be a very good season like the ones I had in the past at [Borussia] Dortmund."

Following his arrival in England in January, the 2015 African Footballer of the Year notched 10 goals in 13 league outings within six months.

However, the prolific marksman declared his readiness for improved displays this term after adapting to life in English Premier League.

"It was beneficial for me to arrive at Arsenal last January so I had six months to get used to the league, the country, the culture so I could be ready for my first full season," he continued.

"It was not easy at the beginning six months ago. It was such a big change. It was hard to find the rhythm, especially physically.

“But this time, I am ready. I could have done better today [Sunday] but I am staying positive. I am really feeling good."

Aubameyang was in action for 90 minutes as Unai Emery kicked off his era at the north London club on a losing note against City.

He will be aiming to open his goal account for the season and help Arsenal back to winning ways when they visit Stamford Bridge for Saturday's league match against Chelsea.
