Arsenal bigger than Ozil & Alexis but Cazorla will sign new deal, says Wenger

Arsene Wenger is confident Santi Cazorla will sign a new Arsenal contract but insists the club is bigger than "one or two players" amid ongoing speculation over the futures of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.

The pair, who both have 18 months remaining on their contracts, are reportedly demanding huge pay rises to bring their wages level with the Premier League's top stars, with Ozil currently understood to be taking home £140,000 a week and Alexis around £10,000 less.

Wenger has already confirmed he will not entertain bids for Ozil and Alexis in the summer even if extensions are refused, with discussions over fresh terms expected to continue, but there is more positive news over Cazorla.

"We will extend, certainly, with Santi Cazorla," Wenger told reporters.

He added: "Arsenal is a big club. It is not one or two players who will make the difference to the club. The importance is that we are today in a financial position that is strong, that was not the case before.

"That means as well we are in a position where we can plan our future, and do what we want to do. And what is important is always to take care of the values of the club, and the identity of the club, and not to depend too much on one or two players.

"The history of Arsenal is bigger than that."

Arsenal, who finished top of their Champions League group for the first time in four years in midweek, host Stoke City in the Premier League on Saturday.
