Ange Postecoglou's Australia game plan works, says James Troisi

The Socceroos boss' contentious tactics are spot on and aren't going to be remodelled, according to the Melbourne Victory attacker

Australian midfielder James Troisi believes coach Ange Postecoglou's controversial 3-4-3 formation functions well and there is no chance of it changing ahead of Tuesday's crunch World Cup qualifier against Thailand.

The green-and-gold have only won two of their eight matches since switching to the system in March and went down 2-0 to Japan in Saitama on Thursday - a result which complicated their path to Russia.

Troisi threw his support behind the tactics and reminded everyone of Postecoglou's single-minded thinking when it came to decisions.

"I think everyone knows the boss by now. Nothing’s going to change," Troisi told reporters.

"It works [the game plan and new 3-4-3 formation]. It’s shown it works.

"Obviously against different opposition it’s a little more difficult. And on Thursday night it was quite difficult and all credit to the Japanese."

If they manage to get a win against Thailand at Melbourne's AAMI Park, the Socceroos will rely on Japan to get a result versus Saudi Arabia in Jeddah on Wednesday morning (AEST).

"We’re in a little tricky situation. The last couple of days have been a little bit tough. But we know what we have to do and to get it done," Troisi said.

"I guess it’s a bit of a do-or-die situation. Not that we don’t have anything to lose, but we have everything to gain.

"And on Tuesday night we have no choice but to be on fire."
