NEROCA FC, currently on 28 points from 15 matches, would have been delighted to see East Bengal (26) get the better of Minerva Punjab (29) on Tuesday.
NEROCA fired blanks in their last match against Aizawl FC which ended in a goalless draw but Gift Raikhan would want his team to leapfrog Minerva Punjab and occupy the top spot on the table by securing three points against Churchill Brothers on Wednesday. Minerva Punjab, however, have a game in hand.
Given that they play at home, NEROCA FC may look to absorb the pressure in the early stages of the game before throwing Bosnia and Herzegovina striker Nedo Turkovic into the equation when they feel like going for the kill. It's been a while since Subhash Singh found his name among the scorers - his last goal was scored 10 matches ago. Felix Chidi Odli (5) is still the club's highest goal-getter.
Aryn Glen Williams and Fabien Vorbe have put in consistent performances while the defence has been marshalled by Gouramangi Singh and Varney Kallon.
Churchill Brothers had lost the first leg tie against NEROCA FC two weeks earlier, courtesy a penalty converted by Felix Chidi Odli. They would like to put the record straight in their bid to earn the best possible finish after their poor start in the league.
The Goan side revamped their squad in the January transfer window and have since lost just two matches Raikhan's men also managed a win over Minerva Punjab earlier this month.
However, they were themselves dealt with a 2-1 shock defeat at the hands of Indian Arrows who rode on two late goals to successfully complete a come-from-behind win.
The loss in their last game would motivate the visitors to come back stronger given the firepower they possess upfront with the partnership of Mechac Koffi and Dawda Ceesay while the side has looked better since the arrival of Hussein Eldor to aid Osagie Monday in defence. Bektur Talgat has proven to be a trusted option in midfield.
Churchill Brothers, who now have 16 points from 13 games, can move two places up to fifth with a win on Wednesday but NEROCA will have their own plans to move towards the summit.
