Mohun Bagan take on George Telegraph in their third match of the 2018 Calcutta Football League (CFL) Premier Division ‘A’ on Sunday at the Mohun Bagan/CCFC ground.
Having won their first two fixtures against Pathachakra and NBP Rainbow AC they are currently on top of the pile. But both their victories have been hard fought and by a margin of only one goal.
Abinash Ruidas has joined training but spent time on the sidelines working with the physical trainer, as he is making a comeback from an injury that he sustained during one of the pre-season matches. Henry Kisekka also chose to concentrate on physical conditioning after missing out the last match with fever.
"Henry is still weak. He has not completely recovered. Whereas, Abinash has just started to train. He needs some time (before he will be completely fit)," informed Sankar Lal Chakraborty.
Although his team has managed to pick up the full kitty of six points from the opening two matches it was evident that Bagan has not yet hit top-gear. Out the four goals scored three have been from set-pieces and the other one resulted due to a huge deflection which wrong-footed the goalkeeper. The coach also accepted that there is enough room for improvement.
"In every match there will be some niggles as no team plays the same kind of football. We are working on how we could get better. The team spirit is really good. In the first match we scored late and in the second we came back from behind to win it. We have improved significantly in our second match and I hope that we will further improve in the near future."
George Telegraph have had a disappointing start to their league campaign as they lost 3-0 against Rainbow in their league opener. But Chakraborty is not ready to take lightly Ranjan Bhattacharya's men.
"We have to be more careful with these kind of teams. We can have no place for over-confidence. In the last four years, we have missed the I-League, Federation Cup and CFL by a whisker. So we have already warned the players."
Ugandan midfielder Boban Zirintusa has been rejected by the coach and Bagan officials have once started their hunt for the fourth foreigner. It is understood that Chakraborty himself has suggested some names to the officials.
Mohun Bagan Possible XI (4-4-1-1): Shilton Paul; Arijit Bagui, Eze Kingsley, Lalchhawnkima, Abhishek Ambekar; Pintu Mahata, Shilton D'Silva, Sourav Das, Tirthankar Sarkar; Henry Kisekka; Aser Pierrick Dipanda.
