This is going to be the first time the two sides are meeting in the Caf Champions League,
Gor Mahia comes into the match as favourites, owing to their current form that has seen them score five goals in two matches, conceding none in the process.
Leones Vegetarianos making their first appearance in the competition having won their maiden title – the Equatoguinean Premier League last year.
The Green Army has played in four of the last five Caf matches, twice going past the first round, and failing to progress in as many matches as well.
K’Ogalo failed to go past the first round in 2014, 2015 and 2016 bowing out at the hands of Tunisian giants Esperance (8-2 aggregate), AC Leopards of Republic of Congo (2-0) and Madagascan outfit CNaPS Sport 3-1 at the preliminary round respectively.
Coach Dylan Kerr is optimistic his side will keep a clean sheet, and progress to the next round after two legs. “We have to be in our best on Saturday and ensure we put a perfect performance that will boost our chances of progressing."
"A clean sheet for us will be really important, and that is what I have told my players, but that does not mean we will not play our game,” Kerr told Goal.
Should Gor Mahia sail through this round, they will face the winner between ASAC Concorde of Mauritania and Tunisia’s Esperance for a place in the last 16 and at least Sh55 million for reaching this stage.
PLAYERS TO WATCH
Harun Shakava: The new Sheriff in town has started life relatively well as the captain of the side. He has led his team to victories against bitter rivals AFC Leopards and Nakumatt.
His main aim will be to help the team do what his predecessor could not do, get into the group stages of the Champions League, but he has to show that in the preliminaries. He has already proved he can be relied on as a leader in all fronts. Lest you forget, his bullet header against rivals AFC Leopards gave Gor Mahia the KPL Super Cup.
Meddie Kagere: The Rwandan star is expected to partner Jacques Tuyisenge up front as well as play as an attacking midfielder depending with the situation.
He can switch to the left with Francis Kahata drifting to the attacking midfield role. All in all, expect magic from Kagere.
PROBABLE LINE-UP: Gor Mahia: Boniface Oluoch, Wellington Ochieng, Godfrey Walusimbi, Harun Shakava, Joash Onyango, Earnest Wendo, Humphrey Mieno, Francis Kahata, George ‘Blackbbery’ Odhiambo, Meddie Kagere and Jacques Tuyisenge.
