With some teams having hectic domestic and European schedules at this time of year, JD explains why punters should be wary of backing
It has been a reasonably good period in my own betting with a majority of recent days proving profitable. The League of Ireland has been particularly fruitful and that will be one of the leagues I will focus on during the summer.
The disadvantage of just two days' rest
Many of the top teams and players are extremely active at this time of year as they combine European club competitions, domestic duties and International matches.
From a betting perspective, it is important to realise the impact of fatigue on a team's performance.
A study conducted by Dutch coach Raymond Verheijen which encompassed over 27,000 games had some interesting findings.
It found that teams with only twp days' full rest had a significantly reduced chance of winning. For example, a team with just two days rest against one with three or more days rest is 39 per cent likely to win at home and 42% less likely to win away from home. It is something to be aware of and crucial that you factor this information into your betting strategy.
This weekend's tips
Looking ahead to the weekend, the big match in the Premier League is Manchester United v Manchester City on Monday evening.
Roberto Mancini's men will be eager to secure a victory over their city rivals after a disappointing season and they can be backed at 5/4 (2.20) on a draw no bet basis with Paddy Power which appears to underestimate the visitors.
Catania have enjoyed an excellent season in Serie A and can continue their impressive home form with victory over Cagliari. They have won 10 of 15 home matches and are a 10/11 (1.91) shot with Paddy Power to continue that winning record.
|Catania to win at 10/11 (1.91) with Paddy Power||Manchester City to win (Draw no Bet) at 5/4 (2.25) with Paddy Power|
