The hosts have seen their lingering hopes of retaining the title slip away recently, but Al Hain-Cole expects them to record a morale-boosting win on Saturday
Roberto Mancini’s men must be hurting after surrendering their title so meekly, and will therefore be keen to restore some pride by recording a healthy victory against the visitors, who will inevitably have one eye on next Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final clash with Benfica.
Considering they have won 37 and lost just one of their last 43 Premier League home games, and beaten the Magpies in each of their last six encounters, it is no surprise that the hosts are overwhelming 1/3 (1.33) favourites to emerge victorious on Saturday.
Alan Pardew’s men have only won one of their last 15 league games on the road, and therefore look unlikely to upset the hefty 11/1 (12.00) odds by coming out on top at Etihad Stadium.
Considering the visitors have drawn just one of their last 20 league fixtures, it would come also come as quite a surprise if this game finished all square, at odds of 21/5 (5.20).
As if their record against City wasn’t bad enough, Newcastle make the difficult trip to Manchester without a number of key players, including Cheick Tiote, Tim Krul, Hatem Ben Arfa and Fabricio Coloccini.
With the main spine of their team missing, the visitors will do well to put up much of a fight against a side that has won six of their last seven home games by an aggregate scoreline of 20-0.
Furthermore, with the distraction of their big match against Benfica looming on the horizon, Pardew’s men seem certain to come away from the Etihad on the back of comprehensive defeat, and odds of 3/4 (1.75) are well worth them money on the hosts winning by at least a two-goal margin.
Carlos Tevez has more than made up for whatever misdemeanour caused Mancini to leave him out over the month of January, scoring six goals in his last five games after being brought back into the fold.
Having got his side off the mark in two of the last three games, he looks like a good bet to score first on Saturday, at odds of 10/3 (4.33).
