Championship Treble: Backing three home wins on Boxing day

Championship Treble: Backing three home wins on Boxing day

Latest Atletico Madrid-Espanyol Betting Preview: Why one of the sides will keep a clean sheet in the game Previous
By Al Hain-Cole

There are some enticing encounters taking place in the Championship, and Al Hain-Cole has chosen three solid home wins in an accumulator worth a profitable 6/1

Championship Treble
Bolton Wanderers
VS
Sheffield Wednesday
Kick-off: 15:00 GMT
Tip: Bolton to win at 39/50 (1.78) with Marathon Bet

After the horror show that was their 5-4 defeat at basement club Peterborough, Bolton will be looking to bounce back when Sheffield Wednesday come to town on Boxing Day.

The Trotters have been disappointing so far this season, and the appointment of Dougie Freedman to replace Owen Coyle is yet to pay any substantial dividends in terms of league results.

However, the Lancashire club have an impressive record against Wednesday, having won the last four encounters between the two clubs, and their potent attack will be looking forward to facing the league’s fourth worst defence.

Dave Jones’ side have just two wins on the road to their name in the league this term, so should struggle on a ground where the hosts have lost just twice so far this season.

Expect Bolton to bring their fans some much needed festive cheer with a win here, available at odds of 39/50 (1.78) with Marathon Bet.

Cardiff City
VS
Crystal Palace
Kick off: 15:00 GMT
Tip: Cardiff to win at 19/20 (1.95) with Marathon Bet

Cardiff are another team in need of a morale-boosting win in front of their own fans, after surrendering their impressive winning home streak with a shock 2-1 defeat against the same tormentors Peterborough in the previous match at the Cardiff City Stadium.

Malky Mackay’s men returned to form by beating Leicester City away from home last weekend, but will want to put a smile back onto the home crowd’s faces with a win against fellow high-flyers Crystal Palace.

A run of one win in six has seen the visitors have cede top spot in the Championship to their Welsh opponents in recent weeks, and they could only manage a draw at home to Huddersfield Town in their previous fixture.

The Bluebirds are unbeaten in their last eight home games against Palace, and the predictably intense atmosphere for this top of the table clash should help to give them the edge against a side lacking somewhat in confidence at the moment.

A resumption in normal service seems likely in the Welsh capital, and odds of 19/20 (1.95) are not to be missed on a home victory in this one.

Middlesbrough
VS
Blackburn Rovers
Kick-off: 15:00 GMT
Middlesbrough to win at 21/20 (2.05) with Marathon Bet

It is a case of two former fan favourites going head-to-head at the Riverside on Wednesday, as ex-Middlesbrough defender Tony Mowbray leads his side out against Blackburn Rovers, now managed by their Premier League winning centre-back Henning Berg.

Unlike Berg though, Mowbray is only enhancing his reputation on his old stomping ground by leading the Teesiders on a real promotion push, with his side currently finding themselves fourth in the table.

The key to this success is Boro’s strong home form, as they have won eight of the 11 matches in their own back yard, with five victories in the last six alone.

Conversely, Rovers’ Norwegian boss has some real problems on his hands, having won just once in nine attempts, and with the club seemingly struggling with issues behind the scenes.

After two years in the job, Mowbray seems to have the team playing exactly to his liking, and the hosts are well-placed to compound Blackburn’s misery by inflicting their fifth defeat in six winless games, at inviting 21/20 (2.05) odds.
