thumbnail Hello,

The former Canaries boss takes his new side back to his old stomping ground with a place in the Capital One Cup semi-finals up for grabs, but Al Hain-Cole expects him to miss out

Tonight's Capital One Cup clash between Norwich City and Aston Villa represents Paul Lambert's first return to Carrow Road since leaving the club in acrimonious circumstances last summer, and with the Scot still involved in a legal dispute against his former employers, the match promises to be played out in front of a fiery atmosphere.

As a former Birmingham City manager, Chris Hughton is unlikely to be warmly received by the opposition fans himself, but he has become something of a hero in Norfolk after leading the Canaries on a 10-match unbeaten streak over the past couple of months.

The hosts have won their last five consecutive matches on home turf, and offer unmissable value at 53/50 (2.06) with Marathon Bet to emerge victorious this evening, against a side with just two away wins in their last 18 attempts.

After a slow start to life at Villa Park, Lambert has seen some improvements in his team’s performances recently, and only the two Manchester giants have beaten the Villains in their last nine.

You can get odds of 59/20 (3.95) if you see the visitors securing a win in their third consecutive away tie in this competition.

Half of this pair’s combined last 10 matches have finished in draws, and there are odds of 5/2 (3.50) on offer for the sides to cancel each out this evening, as they did at Villa Park in October.

While Villa have been drawn away in every round in the Capital One Cup so far, Norwich have benefited from home comforts at every stage of the competition to reach this quarter-final.

Chris Hughton’s men have beaten both Scunthorpe United and Tottenham by the same 2-1 scoreline in two of their three cup victories, and also dispatched Sunderland by that same margin in their last Premier League home game.

With tonight’s guests only twice having hit the back of the net more than once in 10 away games this season, backing a 2-1 home victory could well be the way to go tonight, and would pay off handsomely at odds of 36/5 (8.20).
