Shamrock Rovers - Limerick Betting Preview: Why backing a low-scoring match is the best bet on Monday night

With goals at a premium in games involving these two sides in recent weeks, Phil Kitromilides advises backing two goals or less, in what should be a tight semi-final clash
On paper this should be a straight forward League Cup semi-final victory for Shamrock Rovers, given their status as the most successful club in the history of Irish football, and the fact that their opponents currently ply their trade in the division below them.

Limerick are top of the the Irish First Division, but have suffered just one defeat in their last nine matches in all competitions, and Paddy Power offer odds of 10/3 (4.33) on them upsetting their more illustrious competitors on Monday evening.

Nevertheless, keen followers of Irish football will find the price of 8/11 (1.73) on a win for Shamrock Rovers difficult to resist, given the relative positions and traditions of the two sides.

However, the smart money will go on under 2.5 goals to be scored in the game, available at 5/6 (1.83).

This bet has paid out in six of Rovers' last seven matches in all competitions, and also was the correct selection when the two teams met in the FAI Cup just over two months ago.

Meantime, Limerick's last three matches have all gone under 2.5 goals, and backing a repeat looks like an excellent bet.

For a value bet, a repeat of Shamrock's 1-0 Cup win back in May looks tempting at 11/2 (6.50). If goals look like being at a premium, then backing a tight win for Rovers seems to hold some decent value.
