It's been a mixed week for JD but he ended with a tasty midweek treble. He also explains how to maximise your betting potential and has two picks for the weekendIt has been a tremendous week of football with plenty of twists and turns on the betting front. We finished the week well with a team goals double involving Levante and Tottenham Hotspur which paid around 9/5 (2.80).
Barcelona failing to score an extra goal at home to Athletic Bilbao on Saturday night meant we had to settle for a minor loss of 0.75 units for the week.
It does illustrate the fine lines in this game and after scoring a penalty in th 58th minute, one would expect the Spanish champions to push on and score another but this time they just failed against a spirited Athletic Bilbao side.
Champions League recommendations
We have started this week well with a Champions League home treble. As I said to my subscribers at the start of the week, sometimes the fixture list is kind to the punter and it is at those times you have to be bold and decisive and make your money.
We had a big stake on Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid (-1) which doubled our investment at even money and has put us in the driving seat for this week.
Bayern Munich will play Real Madrid in a mouth-watering semi final with the Spanish side 1/2 (1.50) favourites to progress and the Germans at 13/8 (2.63). Barcelona are 1/5 (1.20) with Bet365 to qualify for the final with Chelsea 7/2 (4.50) to make it to Munich.
As I said last week, the evens (2.0) at the time on an all Spanish final is the bet to be on and I dont see any reason to change my mind. Barcelona will defeat Chelsea with ease and I expect Jose Mourinho's team to get the better of Bayern Munich over two legs.
Greed and fear - Master your two worst enemies when betting
From my own experience in the stock market, I have always found that greed and fear are the worst enemies for any trader. They both can be destructive and can force you to make irrational decisions.
It is the same for any football bettor and if you can master both of these emotions, you will have a great chance of succeeding long term. It is so important to make your decisions with an absence of any emotion and do not let greed or fear cloud your judgement.
It means that if you have made a profitable decision, you do not let greed force you to go into the market again when there may not be any clear opportunities. You should wait until an opportunity is clear and you feel strong about it to put the money down. Like any good football team, maintaining discipline is vital.
Fear can affect you especially if you have had a poor run, it makes you afraid to enter the market. This is when you have to show your bottle and belief in yourself to continue and do not let those opportunities pass you by.
This weekend's tips
Looking ahead to the weekend, I like the 7/5 (2.40) about Everton to beat Norwich City. Everton always finish a season strongly and are in excellent form.
Real Madrid host out of form Valencia in Madrid, they are 1/5 (1.20) with bet365. A better angle would be to take the 8/11 (1.73) about the home side scoring over 2.5 goals.
