Longford Town 3-1 Sheriff YC: Midlanders advance to semi-final

Longford Town advanced to the FAI Cup semi-final with a strong showing against Sheriff YC at City Calling Stadium.

The hosts dominated the early exchanges, and David O'Sullivan scored the inevitable opener. stabbing home after a scramble in the Sheriff box mid-way through the first half.

The home side looked more likely to increase their advantage, but the non-league visitors who stuck next, right on the stroke of half time. Joe Flood unleashed a dipping effort to beat Paul Hunt from 30 yards.

Longford did not take long to re-assert themselves as Ayman Ben Mohamed restored the lead within minutes of the restart, with a low strike from the edge of the box which fizzed past the Sheriff keeper.

It was 3-1 two minutes later when Kevin O'Connor released Lorcan Shannon with a measured pass. The winger just got enough on his shot to poke it home into the corner of the net.

The Town now await the outcome of the FAI Cup semi-final draw as they look to continue their bid to reach the final, having last done so in 2007.
