Shamrock Rovers defender Luke Byrne says that he was relieved when Liverpool lost out to Manchester City in the race for the English Premier League title.
Ahead of his side's friendly encounter with Brendan Rodgers' side on Wednesday, Byrne, a Manchester United supporter, revealed that he was "happy" to see the Reds fail to win the league.
"Being a United fan you don't want it [the Premier League title] going anywhere except for the red half of Manchester, but if I had to pick in that two-horse race, it was Man City all day long," Byrne said, speaking on the League of Ireland GoalMouth podcast.
"I don't know if that's because most of my friends are Liverpool fans or what, but I don't think we'd hear the end of it if Liverpool won that league, so I'm happy enough with City winning. It means Liverpool didn't win it and that's the main thing!"
