The former Monaghan United and Newry City midfielder has signed for Robbie Horgan's side from Glebe North ahead of the new campaign
McCann, who has previously enjoyed spells with Monaghan United and Newry City, joins the Airtricity Premier Division side from Leinster Senior League outfit Glebe North and Drogheda boss Robbie Horgan believes that the 29-year-old is a "real find."
"Austin is very, very fit and committed and he deserves this opportunity based on what I've seen of him over the past two weeks," Horgan told the club's official website. "He is a fantastic advertisement for the development and coaching at Glebe North and I think he will prove to be a real find for us this season."
Louth native McCann has spent the previous four years at Glebe North but expressed his delight at being given the opportunity to play for his hometown club.
"I couldn't be happier to be joining my hometown club and I am very grateful to Robbie Horgan for giving me this opportunity," McCann said. "I know it's going to be a lot of hard work but I'm absolutely committed to giving the club 100 per cent and rewarding Robbie's faith in me."
He added: "I also want to express my thanks to Glebe North, in particular Liam Kelly and Barry Ferguson, two wonderful coaches, for developing and improving me as a player.
"I would also like to thank the other coaching staff, players and committee for the valuable experience I gained at the club.
"It is due to all of them and the excellent facilities at Glebe that I am in the position to step up to Premier Division football."
Elsewhere, Vinny Faherty and Ross Kenny have signed for Airtricity First Division side Galway ahead of the new season.
Faherty joins the new club having spent the 2013 season with Premier Division runners-up Dundalk, while Kenny spent last season with Mervue United.
"The two lads will be very important members of the squad," said Galway boss Tommy Dunne.
