The Boys in Green will host their U19 Elite Stage group, while the Under-17s are set to meet Germany in Serbia
Tom Mohan’s Under-17 squad will travel to Serbia in late March 2014 to face Germany, Serbia, and Georgia after being seeded fourth for today's draw in Nyon, Switzerland.
Paul Doolin’s Under-19 side will host their mini group May 28, 30 and June 2, where they take on Turkey, Iceland, and defending champions Serbia.
The Ireland U19 coach is looking forward to playing the three qualifiers on home soil. “I am absolutely delighted that we are going to host the group after 25 away games even though we have an excellent record away from home with 11 wins and eight draws," Doolin said. "It’s great for the players and hopefully we will get plenty of support because they are all tough games.
“We played Serbia in the Elite Phase last year, drew with them, hit the post in the last minute and then watched them go on and win the U19 Championship. It could so easily have been us going to the finals. Serbia will be very strong because they seem to be able to produce generation after generation of good player and they are the defending champions.
"Turkey also have a good pedigree and always have decent under-age sides while Iceland are flying at all levels at the moment with their U17s and U19s qualifying for the Elite Phases and their seniors reaching the World Cup play-offs.
"It’s going to be tough to qualify so that’s why it’s good to have the group in Ireland. It’s also nice to have the Qualifying Round for next season’s tournament at home as well and it will give people a chance to see the lads in competitive action.”
In addition to the Elite Stage draws, the groups for the Qualifying Rounds of the 2015 European Under-17 and Under-19 Championships were also announced on Thursday. Ireland U17s will meet Scotland, Faroe Islands, and Gibraltar in September, while the U19s play host to Switzerland, Malta and Gibraltar win November 2014.
