Wes Hoolahan set to start for Ireland against Wales

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has named his starting XI for Wednesday's friendly international with Wales at Cardiff City Stadium.

Norwich City midfielder Wes Hoolahan will start behind striker Shane Long in a five man midfield, with Jonathan Walters expected to line up on the wing. In the absence of Aiden McGeady, Robbie Brady has been selected ahead of new Wigan Athletic winger James McClean.

Keiren Westwood will deputise in goal for the injured David Forde, with the Sunderland stopper hoping to impress ahead of the Premier League kickoff this weekend, and September's World Cup qualifiers with Sweden and Austria.

The Republic of Ireland take on Wales at Cardiff City Stadium on Wednesday, August 14.
