Having gone seven games without picking up a point, Bray Wanderers were languishing perilously close to the foot of the table. However, a turnaround of form and fortune in recent weeks has improved the Seagulls' situation no-end.

Their considerable improvement was highlighted by Friday's hard-fought 3-1 victory against Cork City, the first time they have picked up three points at Turner's Cross in 26 years, and it came thanks to Kieran Marty Waters' second-half brace. With defensive frailties central to their disappointing start to the season, the Seagulls were relying heavily on creating and converting chances at the other end in order to pick up results but in recent weeks, the form of Waters, Ishmael Akinade and John Mulroy in particular has improved significantly.

Despite scoring eight goals last campaign, the 23-year-old had taken his time to find the net in the first series of fixtures and looked a shadow of himself but three goals in his last three games, including Friday's double at Turner's Cross, is a timely return to the score sheet for the skillful winger.

Having taken the lead in the opening exchanges on Leeside, Pat Devlin's side were pegged back just after the interval before Waters stole the show to secure three vital points. Having latched onto a through ball, he turned Dan Murray superbly before calmly slotting past McNulty and then Waters sealed the victory in the dying moments with another superb individual effort.

There is no coincidence that the return to form of Waters coincides with the Seagulls' improved performances and results given he was linked with a move to several clubs in the league during the off-season. Having played every minute of the 2013 Airtricity League season to date, Waters is a key player for Bray and with him in the side, they will always carry a threat going forward.
