Paul Lambert's side will travel to Dublin in August to take on the Hoops at Tallaght Stadium as part of their pre-season preparations

Shamrock Rovers have announced a summer friendly with Aston Villa at Tallaght Stadium. The Hoops will play the English Premier League club in Dublin on Sunday, August 4th.

Former Hoops defender Enda Stevens could appear for Paul Lambert's side in the clash, which is part of Villa's pre-season preparations. The 22-year-old left-back featured in seven Premier League games this season, and will be looking to cement his place in Paul Lambert's squad.

Villa's last game in Ireland was a 2-1 loss to Bohemians in July 2010, with Ciaran Clark and Richard Dunne both starting for a mostly full-strength visiting side. Conor Powell opened the scoring for Bohs, with John Carew equalising before 19-year-old French trialist Enzo Fuentes gave the home side the victory.

Ticket details for Shamrock Rovers' August tie with their English opponents will be announced soon.

Meanwhile, Stephen Hunt looks set to sign for Ipswich Town after being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers. Mick McCarthy is said to be interested in bringing the former Republic of Ireland international winger to Portman Road following Wolves' relegation from the Championship.
