thumbnail Hello,

The Saints manager believes that his club deserved their win over the league leaders, and can now challenge for the Airtricity Premier Division title

Sligo Rovers suffered their first defeat of the Airtricity Premier Division, losing 2-0 away to St Patrick's Athletic at Inchicore, and Pat's' boss Liam Buckley believes that the victory puts his side in contention for the title race.

Goals in either half from Conan Byrne and Killian Brennan saw Pat's beat the league leaders, and move to within six points of the top spot with a game in hand. Buckley was pleased with his side's performance at Richmond Park, and believes that his side deserved the victory.

Speaking after the game, Buckley told reporters that his side are now definite contenders. “We played well over the 90 minutes," Buckley said. "We pressed them well in the first half, stood off them a bit more in the second but then it’s difficult to keep that up for the whole game and I’m happy with the way we played.

"The expectation within the club is that we will be challenging. Sligo have won eight on the spin, but we feel we can be in the mix at the end of the season. There is a long way to go."

Pat's have a tricky tie next weekend against second-placed Derry City, and know that a win at Richmond Park will greatly help their title ambitions.
