FAI extend ticket deadline for England friendly at Wembley

Ahead of the forthcoming friendly against the Three Lions in May, the Irish football governing body has moved the deadline for the purchase of tickets
The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) has extended the ticket application deadline for the upcoming international friendly against England on May 29.

According to a report in the Irish Independent, representatives from the FAI met with the FA to discuss the possibility of crowd trouble arising out of late ticket purchases which would see fans mingled and agreed to extend the deadline for ticket applications.

The initial deadline had been set at April 26, but the FAI has decided to extend the deadline to Monday, May 6. As yet, the FAI has sold over half of its allocation of 10,000 tickets, while over 5,000 tickets have also been sold to Irish supporters by the FA.

A large security presence is expected at the ground during the tie, which is the first meeting between the sides since February 1995, a game that was abandoned due to rioting, which resulted in 40 arrests and left 20 people injured.
