The Boys in Green suffered a second-half defeat in the Elite Stage UEFA U17 Championship qualifying, but still have a slim chance of qualifying with one game remaining
Both sides created first half chances, with Peter Burke saving from Roman Tchanturia and Akaki Shulaia, while Cody Mulhall went closest at the other end. The sides went in scoreless at the break despite Georgia having more of the possession, but the game took a huge turn in three second-half minutes.
Luka Zarandia capitalised on a defensive error to give Georgia the lead in the 54th minutes, with Pierce Mitchell picking up a second yellow card for dissent a minute later. Ireland were down to nine men by the 56th minute when Roman Tchanturia was taken out by goalkeeper Peter Burke when through on goal.
Substitute Harry Doherty did well to save Zarandia's spot kick, but the Boys in Green were on the back foot for the rest of the game, playing with just nine men. Georgia's dominance led to goals from Illia Kerdzevadze and Grigol Chabradze late on, as Mohan's side suffered a 3-0 defeat.
In the other Group 2 game, Austria beat Serbia 1-0. Today's results leave all four teams equal on three points with the Republic of Ireland set to play Serbia on Saturday, 30th March, with only the top side qualifying for the tournament finals.
