Derry City striker Rory Patterson was undoubtedly the star of week two as he struck a hat-trick inside thirty five minutes to set Declan Devine's men on their way to a resounding 6-0 victory over a clueless UCD side on Friday March 15.

The Northern Ireland international was quick to pounce as Ger Barron dwelled in possession inside the opening exchanges before capitalising on a weak back-pass from James Kavanagh to finish expertly. He completed his treble and netted the first hat-trick of the Airtricity League season by firing home a free-kick from just outside the area.

Patterson, who scored twice in last year's FAI Cup final, played just fourteen league games last year for the Foylesiders, finding the net on six occasions. There is no doubt the 28-year-old has an eye for the net, with his goal scoring record both at home and abroad speaking for itself.

Considering the relative inexperience of the other strikers at the club, Patterson will have an important role to play if Derry are to build on last year's cup success and he is well on his way to a fruitful season at the Brandywell.
