The Wolves manager has singled out the Irish duo for praise after their crucial contribution to the important victory over Bristol City on Saturday

Wolves manager Dean Saunders has heaped praise on Irish duo Kevin Doyle and Stephen Hunt after his side's 2-1 Championship victory against Bristol City on Saturday, March 16.

Doyle, who captained the team, scored the decisive winning goal on 78 minutes to complement Sylvan Ebanks-Blake's equaliser three minutes earlier and Saunders believes that the goal will aid the Republic of Ireland international's confidence.

"I gave Kevin Doyle the captaincy because I thought that responsibility might help him and he got a great goal. With that under his belt it should help him," the Wolves boss told the club's official website.

Saunders also reserved praise for winger Stephen Hunt, who came on after 32 minutes and provided the crosses for both goals in the second half.

"Stephen Hunt came on and changed the game for us with two brilliant crosses for our goals. And he worked his socks off and he got the ball back when we lost it," said Saunders.

He continued: "I'm a bit surprised why the fans are giving him some stick because they normally like players like that because they give everything.

"And I forgive players like that if they make mistakes when they are giving everything. I thought he played really well and he did everything well.

"He was working hard, he was chasing, he was defending – he gives us that energy and spark and is an experienced player.

"He is brilliant in the dressing room as well and great around the club and he won’t let me down," added the Wolves boss.
