The Republic of Ireland international has taken inspiration from his side's previous victory over Man City in the Capital One Cup and believes that the Villans can emulate the win

Aston Villa defender Ciaran Clark believes that his side can repeat their cup heroics against Manchester City when they face off in the Premier League at Villa Park on Monday, March 4.

The Villans defeated City 4-2 in the Capital One Cup earlier in the season and despite his side languishing in the relegation zone, Clark is hoping to take confidence from that result.

"It'll be a tough game," Clark told the Irish Examiner. "You know they are a brilliant side but we beat them in the league cup earlier on in the season and there's no reason for us not to think that we can't beat them this time."

Paul Lambert's side currently find themselves in 18th position in the league, having accrued just 24 points from 27 games. However, Clark believes that the Villa Park faithful will remain supportive of their team.

He said: "Our home support has always been brilliant. All the lads know that they will be right behind us in the next few home games."

Elsewhere, Wolves winger Stephen Hunt has expressed his shock at the treatment he received from a section of the crowd upon his return to action in the 1-1 draw against Watford on March 1.

"I was shocked when they cheered me coming off," Hunt told reporters. "Thanks for that lads. It was my first start in a long time."

He continued: "The fans can be fantastic but they can also be against us as well and that didn’t help. I am not going to worry about what happened when I came off.

"It was more of a shock to me when I came off and I was sat there listening to them signing horrific songs. It is embarrassing, it is just embarrassing," added the 31-year-old.

Meanwhile, York City have appointed former Northern Ireland boss Nigel Worthington as manager. Worthington, who has previously managed Blackpool and Norwich City, will attempt to steer the League Two side away from relegation.
