Reading defender Alex Pearce called up to Ireland squad

The Royals centre back has been included in the Boys in Green panel after Giovanni Trapattoni opted to allow Toronto defender Darren O'Dea time off
Reading defender Alex Pearce has been called up to the Ireland squad as a replacement for Toronto centre back Darren O'Dea.

Following consultation with the player, Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni opted to allow O'Dea time off from international duty in order to focus on his preparations with MLS side Toronto FC.

English-born Pearce, 24, has been capped at under-21 level for Scotland, but declared for Ireland in 2012 and has since won one cap for the Boys in Green, which came during the 4-1 friendly victory over Oman at Craven Cottage in September 2012.

He will now join up with the rest of the Ireland squad for the friendly against Poland in Dublin on February 6.
