Ireland move up one place in Fifa rankings

Giovanni Trapattoni's Republic of Ireland have moved up one place to 41 in the Fifa rankings table, updated today, January 17.

The Boys in Green share their ranking position with South American nation Bolivia, but find themselves below Haiti, Zambia and Turkey.

The ascent in the table marks the first rise for Trapattoni's team in three months, after falling 16 places over three successive months.

The top 11 spaces remain unchanged, with Ireland's World Cup qualifying rivals Germany occupying second place, behind Spain and ahead of Argentina, while Sweden have also moved up one position to 19.

Michael O'Neill's Northern Ireland have dropped two places to 98 in the rankings, while Gordon Strachan's Scotland moved up three spots to 69 and Wales moved up one to 81.
