New Limerick FC manager Stuart Taylor has said that he has long-term plans for the club, which include keeping their place in the Airtricity Premier Division this season.

After being unveiled at a press conference in the city on Friday, the former Drogheda United player spoke of his desires for his new club. "Staying in the Premier Division is classed a success, although we're striving to achieve higher than that," Taylor admitted. "We want to get the respect of other players and managers at other clubs with how we go about our work and our play, our style of play, our passion and the respect we have for our players.

"There’s a real passion for football here. There is a real hunger and desire and it's fantastic to be involved, it's what I'm used to. I'm not going to say in three years, 'that's it, I'm away now'. I'm here long-term. I have big ambitions but I'm a firm believer that to achieve, you need to be patient, with yourself, with your club. Anyone looking for a quick fix in football will fail. Clubs hoping for short-term answers to long-term problems end up wasting money and going bust."

Limerick's search for a successor to Pat Scully was a long, drawn-out process, with former Hull City boss Phil Brown almost agreeing a deal, but Taylor doesn't believe the club's preparations for the upcoming campaign have suffered too much by the lack of movement in appointing a new manager. "I'm comfortable with where we are at this moment in time so in my opinion, we're not behind anyone," he said. "We’ve got a strategy that we're looking to stick by and it’s a successful one where we have our plans in place and targets we want to reach."

The Shannonsiders will play their home games at Thomond Park this season, and Taylor is hoping that the Munster rugby team's successes can be replicated by his football club. "Thomond is a fantastic stadium and we aim to use that to our advantage," he said. "The rugby team has done superbly well there over the last number of years. People are proud of them. I aim to make them proud of us. If they see a group of driven, committed players wearing their city's shirt then they will be proud."

Limerick kick off their Airtricty Premier League campaign at home to Cork City on Friday, March 8.
