Robbie Keane extends LA Galaxy contract

The Republic of Ireland captain has dispelled any speculation about a potential return to England by agreeing to extend his contract with MLS side Galaxy
Republic of Ireland striker Robbie Keane has agreed to sign a new two-year contract with MLS side LA Galaxy.

The 32-year-old former Tottenham Hotspur forward joined Galaxy in 2011 and finished the 2012 season as the club's top goalscorer. Keane's performances for his side also ensured that he was named in the MLS Team of the Year.

"I had another year left and they offered me a new contract at the end of last season," Keane told Sky Sports. "I've just signed a new two-year contract."

The Ireland captain had been linked with a potential loan move to the Premier League, but has ruled out such a development arguing that his body required a break after a 'long season'.

He said: "It's been a long season, with the Euros and what have you. I've a few little niggles that need to be sorted out so I don't think at this moment in time it would be right for me to go anywhere."
