Meyler set for Sunderland recall

The Black Cats midfielder has been enjoying a fruitful loan spell at Hull City but injuries dictate that he will be required for the Premier League's festive period
Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill has confirmed that David Meyler is likely to be required over the Christmas period, meaning his loan spell at Championship side Hull City will be curtailed.

The Black Cats have suffered a number of injuries to key players, such as Lee Cattermole and Phil Bardsley, and O'Neill has described Meyler's return as a 'certainty'.

"I'm thinking about recalling David Meyler for our Christmas programme," O'Neill said, according to the Irish Independent.

"In fact, that looks like being a certainty. I've spoken to Steve Bruce about it and he understands the situation.

"He knows we're having a look at it and he appreciates the position."

Meyler has played seven times for the Tigers since moving on loan and has scored in each of his last two Championship games.
