Oman signs new Hoops deal while Healy commits to Cork

Trevor Croly continues to build his squad for the new season with the news that experienced defender Ken Oman has put pen to paper on a new deal for the 2013 season.

Shamrock Rovers defender Ken Oman has re-signed with the club for the upcoming 2013 Airtricity League season while Cork City have secured the services of Colin Healy.

The 30-year-old moved to Tallaght in 2011 and quickly became a regular under Michael O’Neill as the Hoops secured their third league title on the bounce with Oman scoring in the game that clinched the trophy in Belfield.

Commenting on re-signing, Oman said: “I’m glad to have signed back with the club. Last season was obviously very disappointing for us and I’m pleased to have to chance to be part of the squad again next year as we look to put that right.

“Having signed back, I’m now looking forward to the new season getting started and helping he club get back to where it should be.”

Oman began his league career at Bohemians when Pete Mahon signed him in the 2001 but after four successful years at Dalymount Park, the Finglas native was released by Bohs before joining Derry City. He returned to the Gypsies a couple of years later and won two league titles under Pat Fenlon.

Elsewhere, Cork City have announced that Colin Healy has committed his future to the club by signing a new one year deal at Turner’s Cross.

The experienced midfielder re-joined the Leesiders at the start of the last campaign after returning from a spell with Championship side Ipswich Town.  In a little over two years at Portman Road, the 30-year-old made 29 appearances and scored twice. He also has a loan stint at Scottish Club Falkirk before being released by the Tractor Boys.

Speaking to the club’s official website, the former Republic of Ireland international said: “I am looking forward to next season, and can’t wait to get started. Obviously Tommy has brought in a few new players, and I am hoping that we can progress from last year.”

Cork City manager Tommy Dunne said he was pleased to have Healy on board for the coming season; “It is good to have an experienced player like Colin among what is a relatively young group of players. Last year maybe didn’t go as well as he would have liked from a playing point of view due to a couple of injuries, but I am hopeful that Colin will be fit and well for next season and am confident he will bring a lot to the table.”

The fixtures for the 2013 Airtricity Premier Division are set to be announced on Wednesday 19th December at 12pm.
