Ireland under 19s get Serbia, Slovakia and Switzerland in Elite Round

The Young Boys in Green have been handed a tough group in the Elite Round of the Uefa under 19 European Championship
The Republic of Ireland under 19 have been drawn in a group with Serbia, Slovakia and Switzerland in the Elite Round of the Uefa Under 19 European Championship.

The games will take place from June 6 to June 11 and the group winners will qualify for the finals of the competition which are to be held in Lithuania in July.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) had hoped to host the group games, but, to the dissatisfaction of under 19 boss Paul Doolin, the games will instead be played in Belgrade.

"The biggest disappointment for me is the fact that we lost out on hosting the group," Doolin said. "I really wanted to have it at home but Serbia wanted to host it too and unfortunately their name was drawn out of the hat."

He added: "Belgrade in June will be hot but at least it is at the end of the season and we will be able to call on all our players."

In addition to the Elite Round draw, the draw for the qualifying round of the 2013/14 Uefa Under 19 European Championship was also made.

Ireland were drawn in Group Three, alongside Sweden, Bosnia and Azerbaijan. The games will be played in Sweden from October 10 to October 15.
