'He seems to have been round for years but he’s only 23' - Aston Villa boss Paul Lambert praises Ciaran Clark

The Villa boss has praised his Irish centre back after the defender helped his side to a deserved 0-0 draw against Arsenal in the league
Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has heaped praise upon central defender Ciaran Clark in the aftermath of his side's 0-0 draw with Arsenal at Villa Park on Saturday November 24.

The Republic of Ireland international has been ever present at the heart of the Villa defence this season playing alongside Netherlands international Ron Vlaar and Lambert was keen to stress his worth to the team this season.

"Ciaran Clark’s been excellent," he told reporters after the Arsenal game. "He seems to have been round for years but he’s only 23. He’s someone I think has got a terrific future in the game."

Meanwhile, Lambert has revealed that Richard Dunne is set to remain sidelined, due to a 'mysterious' injury. The 33-year-old centre back has been ruled out this season with a groin complaint and after having undergone surgery, it appears that his return to action has been further delayed.

"He’s seeing the doctor," said Lambert. "We will try to get to the bottom of the injury, which is a bit mysterious. We are trying everything we can to sort it," he concluded.
