The FAI have dismissed claims from Waterford United that Dundalk's Michael Rafter was ineligible for the Airtricity League playoff
Rafter scored both of Dundalk's goals in the playoff second leg, thus keeping the Lilywhites in the Premier Division for the 2013 season. A three-man FAI disciplinary committee met today, but after hearing arguments from both sides, decided to throw out Waterford's claim that Rafter's transfer from Tipperary amateur side St Michael's was outside the registration window.
However, a statement from the FAI today read “The Disciplinary Committee decided that the rules regarding registration and transfer of players allow for their movement from the amateur game to the professional game within the professional registration periods.
“The Disciplinary Committee ruled that Michael Rafter’s transfer to Dundalk complied with the rules and therefore he was eligible to play in the fixture on November 2, 2012.”
