thumbnail Hello,

Dundalk recorded a 2-0 victory over Waterford United at the RSC to secure their place in the Airtricity Premier Division for the 2013 Season

After playing out a 2-2 draw at Oriel Park on Tuesday evening, Dundalk travelled to Waterford United's Regional Sports Centre for the second leg of the Airtricity League Relegation Playoff, where two goals from Michael Rafter kept the Lilywhites in the top tier.

Waterford United got off to a good start, and should have gone ahead from a seventh-minute corner with Sean Maguire spurning a great opportunity. Mark Griffin had the best chance for Dundalk in the early stages, but could not keep his shot down.

The Blues were the better of the two sides in the opening half, but found themselves behind at the interval thanks to Michael Rafter's 45th-minute goal. Rafter shot from the edge of the area after a decent counter attack from the visitors.

Rafter set up Gary Shanahan early in the second half, but Shanahan could not direct his header towards Packie Holden's goal. Peter White hit a shot that stung Peter Cherrie's hands after the hour mark, but Dundalk doubled their lead minutes later when Michael Rafter added his second after a mistake in midfield from the Blues.

The hosts had the ball in the net near the end, but Sean Maguire was flagged for offside after putting the ball past Peter Cherrie. Dundalk held out well despite plenty of Waterford pressure to record their second win in the last 21 games, to remain in the Airtricity Premier Division.
