The Football Association of Ireland have confirmed that the Baggies striker is suffering from an injury complaint but will be included in the Irish squad if fit
Baggies striker Long was a notable absentee from the provisional 26-man squad announced yesterday, with the FAI initially explaining that he was unavailable due to a hamstring strain, despite the injured duo of Ciaran Clark and Glenn Whelan being named.
However, Trapattoni revealed that the striker was suffering from 'a knock under the knee' and was due to undergo scans.
"Yesterday, he answered me, or the day before yesterday," Trapattoni told reporters. "We also received an update. He has a knock under the knee. He has to see a scan again, I don't know. Until now, we don't know. I hope he can play Saturday.
"At the moment, the club doesn't think he will be ready and will let us know if they are ready. I would be surprised if he plays on Saturday," he added.
Trapattoni has named just three strikers in the squad, with captain Robbie Keane also missing out due to MLS playoff commitments with his club LA Galaxy.
