Sunderland midfielder David Meyler has been called up by Giovanni Trapattoni as the Ireland boss waits on a scan revealing the extent of Kevin Doyle's thigh injury
Giovanni Trapattoni has drafted David Meyler into the Republic of Ireland squad amid fears over Kevin Doyle's fitness.

Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Doyle picked up a thigh injury in training with his club, and is due to undergo a scan to assess the extent of his injury. The results of the scan are expected to be revealed on Saturday, but Doyle has already been ruled out of Wolves' Championship clash with Blackburn Rovers this weekend.

David Meyler has been called up to Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad to face Germany in Aviva Stadium on October 12 and the Faroe Islands in Tórsvøllur Stadium, Torshavn on October 16. The Sunderland midfielder will join up with the squad in Dublin in time for training on Monday morning.
