St Patrick's Athletic and Drogheda United both kept the pressure on league leaders Sligo Rovers with wins in the Airtricity Premier Division.
A Vinny Faherty hat-trick helped Pat's record a convincing 5-0 win over UCD at Richmond Park, while Drogheda United defeated Shelbourne 2-1 in a heated game at Hunky Dorys Park.
Declan 'Fabio' O'Brien opened the scoring for Drogs from the spot after 20 minutes when Glen Cronin fouled him in the area, while a scuffle between Gavin Brennan and Gavin Matthews saw both sides reduced to ten men for the last half an hour. Ryan Brennan scored from the edge of the area with five minutes to go, and despite Philly Hughes snatching a late goal for Shels, Drogheda held on to keep their European hopes alive.
St. Patrick's Athletic moved back to within five points of Sligo Rovers thanks to a very one-sided affair at Richmond Park. Jake Kelly got the Saints off to a good start after a quarter of an hour, before Vinny Faherty scored a second half hat-trick, with Anto Flood also adding a goal of his own in a 5-0 win over UCD.
Sligo now sit in first place on 57 points with four games remaining, while Pat's and Drogheda are on 52 and 51 points respectively having played a game extra.
