Pascal Millien stood out once more for the Bit o' Red and won a 14th minute corner after some fancy footwork in the box. Joseph Ndo sent in the set-piece, with Ryan McBride putting the ball into his own net. Rovers had the ball in the net again ten minutes later, but Joseph Ndo was offside when he sent in a rebound after Rafaele Cretaro's shot fell into his path.
Sligo did finally double their lead in the 35th minute, with Rafaele Cretaro capitalising on a weak clearance to send the home fans into raptures. Cretaro added a second after the break when Ndo put him through on goal. David McDaid got one back for the Candystripes, but the comeback never looked on, as Millien went close before Lee Lynch sealed the win 15 minutes from time.
The win sees Sligo move eight points clear at the top of the Airtricity Premier Division table with just four games remaining.
