The Boys in Green boss will welcome the recovery of the Birmingham midfielder who made a substitute appearance at the weekend to mark his return from injury

Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has been handed a further boost to his midfield options ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Germany in October as Birmingham midfielder Keith Fahey made a return from injury at the weekend.

The former St Patrick's Athletic player was forced to pull out of the Irish squad that travelled to Euro 2012 due to a recurring groin injury sustained in April, but he continued his recovery by making an appearance as a late substitute in his side's 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at the weekend.

Birmingham manager Lee Clark hailed the return of the the 29-year-old, suggesting that his return from injury is 'like adding a new signing'.

"It is great to have Keith back," he said "He is someone I had admired before I joined Birmingham. It really is like adding a new signing to the squad."

Trapattoni's Boys in Green will welcome Germany to the Aviva Stadium on Friday October 12, before travelling to face Faroe Islands in Torshavn on October 16.
